reasons. number one, secretary of state john houston in columbus would tell you that there is 220,000 fewer he democratic votes in early voting and 30,000 more republican votes. that means there is a 250,000 vote flip which is the margin by which obama won ohio in 2008. secondly, ohio is a republican state. 20 of the last 24 years we had republican governors. the legislature is overwhelmingly republican. every elected member of the supreme court of ohio is republican. 75% of elected officials in 88 counties are republicans. and thirdly, by independent voting measures, 10% to 15% of independent voters in ohio are going to vote for mitt romney. and also the catholic church when i go to saint sin vent in kenwood in since is national the minister is telling us vote for religious freedom. vote for the biblical definition of marriage. vote for life. there is half a million catholics energized in south, ohio, to pull the lever for mitt romney. mitt romney will win, ohio, and is going to win ohio easily. >> sean: wisconsin? >> wisconsin will go for romney because what walker did and what

are scrambling to make sure preparations are in place. and abc's john schriffen has that part of the story from lower manhattan. good morning, john. >> reporter: good morning. we are here in battery park city, in what's now being called zone "a." 375,000 residents around the city live in the low-lying potential flood zones. you look at the water right now, it is calm. but when sandy comes through, it wouldn't take much for the water to come up over the walls. last year, for hurricane irene, these residents had to be evacuated. so, this time around, they're ready for the worst. east coast communities going on the offensive. building sand walls, securing property and stocking up on supplies, as the superstorm closes in. after being pounded last year by hurricane irene with its record storm surge and feet of flooding, new york residents are once again bracing for the worst. damage from irene topped $14 billion. and sandy could wreak even more havoc. >> certainly having lived through it. i lost everything in my basement. i had up to ten feet of water in my house. this is a concern. >> reporter: gov
, as you know, is so unpredictable. on the phone from johns hopkins university in maryland seth the assistant professor for the department of geography and engineering. thank you for being with us. i know you developed a model to predict which areas will have the most power out nls. what did you find from that? >> when we ran our modaal with t the latest track update from last night impacts from northern virginia up through new jersey like you said and they'll extend quite a was in inland. >> i know you have been studying the relationship between hurricanes and power failures for seven years now. as you look at the model that you're viewing now, what is your biggest concern with this storm? >> well, it's going to impact a pretty large area with a high population density. a lot of people out, which is going to cause difficulty getting power restored because a lot of need for repair crews and utilities will have to get those in place beforehand. some of the outages will be pretty prolonged. >> do you think seven to ten days is, in fact, accurate? >> that seems like a pretty reason
, especially in pivotal battleground states like north carolina. john is traveling on the cnn elections express, the big beautiful bus, taking a pulse of the voters in the key states. john, you're in winston-salem, north carolina. what are the people there saying about the race? >> reporter: well, victor, you know, this is really one of the key swing districts in the swing state of north carolina, which president obama won by only 14,000 votes four years ago. so we've been talking to voters here. and it's fascinating. the american people are smart. even the folks who are swing voters, folks leaning romney are saying, look, one of the gentlemen we spoke to said, i hope this identity of the general election is where romney would be as president instead of moving to the right in the primaries that he had to do to get the nomination. one woman said the government considers me poor, but i'm concerned about the borrowing. there's concern about foreign policy under the romney administration. one woman said her brother's in the military. concerned about what that might mean for him. and one independent

: this is the 2008 presidential race. barack obama way ahead of john mccain. and it is my understanding that in the polls recently for this election that romney is inching closer to obama, is th correct? >> it is correct. it is in within the margin of error. >> what do you make of the surge? minnesota has been a blue state what do you make for romney? >> it is a conservative minnesota, gretchen. in 2010 minnesota won both studies of the legislatures, republicans did. we are seag a move to a conservative trend in minnesota. >> gretchen: the governor seat went to a democrat in a tight, tight election and senator al franken won with 312 vote,many of them disputed and michele bachmann is in a tight race or do it see it that way? >> i have known mitch mitch for 10 years and one of the most dedicate hard working conservatives we have in congress and i believe she will prevail in that race. >> gretchen: she's up against tom graves. we have mitchell bachmann, republican 51 percent . jim graves 45 percent. and so that's outside of the margin of error . they had a recent debate i believe. did the

obama is re-elected, he will have to work with speaker john boehner and very likely have a democratic senate. and what's fascinating about that and you've talked about it a lot, is is we do have a reverse situation in the last couple of years on our hands. he's got the leverage in the fiscal cliff. he can let this happen and republicans can decide if they want taxes to be much, much higher. republicans see their leverage coming two months after the fiscal cliff we have another debt ceiling coming up. i think a lot of folks in politics are skeptical that if the republicans lose an election, the american people are open to them triggering a debt ceiling. >> i don't think there's going to be a romney presidency but if we had one, i would love to see the first meeting between him and harry reid and he says okay, let me see your tax returns. >> exactly. i would love to see that meeting, too. and you know, i would also like to see some subsequent meetings between mitt romney and even the republican controlled house, which, as you know, has its factions that john boehner tries to keep togeth
